Autoplasty (Prominent Ear)

Ears, located on the sides of the head, are important aesthetic
components and organs looked from different angles. There is a variety of
surgeries on ear disorders and they are very widespread.


What is prominent ear surgery? How is it conducted? Is anaesthesia required?

Prominent ear surgery is a surgery in which the disorders which
occur due to developmental reasons are treated. The surgery is conducted
through an incision behind the ears and the ears are moved back by sutures
between ear cartilages and cranial and facial bones. It is conducted under
local aneasthesia.


What age is appropriate for the surgery?


Usually, prominent ear surgery is carried out during pre-school
period. 5 or 6 years old of age is suitable for that. However, adults can also
have prominent ear surgery.


What should the patient do after prominent ear surgery?


Following the prominent ear surgery, a tape should be used to keep
the ears in their position. This tape should be used during the nights only
for six weeks. Medical dressing should be applied to the incision behind the
ears for one week. Suture is absorable and there is no need to remove it.
